Well, atleast we hope we are "all done" with this clogged tear duct thing! Mommy & daddy left bright and early this morning (5:30 AM) for Em's procedure. Check-in was at 6:30 AM and surgery was at 7:30 AM. The pre-op nurse was very impressed with Em - she made the comment "if only the rest of her patients would behave this well...". Needless to say, Em left an impression - without saying much. Before she even got her "cocktail" to calm her down, she was asleep (the sippy cup wasn't full, mainly just a security blanket). She even let Dr. Weller mark her eye with his initials this time around (last time all he got was a dot!). Instead of carrying her back to surgery, the nurses wheeled her bed back and she didn't make a peep.
Within a few minutes of waiting in the waiting room, Dr. Weller was back out and telling mommy & daddy of the successful surgery. He probed her tear duct with a succession of different sized probes and he could definitely feel an obstruction (which he took care of). He said he hopes he doesn't have to see us again (not that Em isn't a good patient)!
In recovery, Em woke up calm and cuddly and was excited (and crying for) a drink. Her eye had some bloody discharge (no more than is expected) and mommy made a great choice by wearing a white fleece today-NOT! Em was still really drowsy and couldn't keep her head up for very long, but she knew she wanted that sippy cup and a drink. Once she had most of it gone, we were discharged - by 8:20 AM!
She napped off and on throughout the morning and was hungry when it came time for lunch - bring on the mac-n-cheese and oranges! Despite also having a couple of diarrhea incidents, the rest of the day was pretty calm - she played and read books and napped some more. Hopefully she will regain some more of her energy tomorrow (and the diarrhea will go away too)!
