First Day of School

Mommy here today.  Today was G's first day of school for the year - this year he is in the afternoon Pre-K class - mostly 4-5 year olds that will be in Kindergarten next year.

Last week we went to the Pre-K Open House, took his school supplies and talked to his friends and teachers.  He was a little clingy at first, but then warmed up.  Even this morning, he was talking about the friends he would see and his teachers and what we could do we he returned home after school.  He insisted on wearing his Angry Birds t-shirt, as it is one of his favorites to wear.  He even posed for SEVERAL pictures on the front porch, on the sidewalk and in the school parking lot (we were a little early).

As we were walking up the front sidewalk to the school, I could feel his hand gripping my hand tighter and tighter.  When we opened the front doors and his teachers and friends greeted us, he promptly turned his back towards them.  At that point, I gave him a hug, a kiss, said I love you and see you later and I left. I didn't want to prolong the good-bye.  He proceded to scream bloody murder and start crying.  Fabulous. "Mother of the Year" Winner here.  (He was fine, which I knew he would be.  One of his teachers even called to tell me he settled down before I even pulled out of the parking lot.)

Fast forward to after school.  He bounced out of the school, happy and sweaty.  He was excited to tell me about playing outside (for PE and recess), about the new kids in his class, about how he was the teacher's helper today and about how they couldn't use the smart board today but would use it tomorrow.  I would guess to say it ended up being a successful first day of school - he even got a special treat on the way home.
